Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all |
As regards emissions, the total CO2 saved between 2019 and 2021 across the Group as a whole (including abroad) was 44,773 tons of CO2, mainly due to electricity being purchased from virtuous producers with emissions/kWh generated below the relevant national average. In 2021 in particular, the % of certified green electricity used by the Group was 59.6% of its total annual requirement.
Iris Ceramica Group’s production plants have implemented solutions for energy saving, minimum environmental impact, best practices in air emission and water pollution. For example, in the Porcelaingres plant in Vetschau, a 2.4 MWp photovoltaic plant is active, one of the largest renewable energy plants in Germany. An indoor area of 50,000 square meters with a photovoltaic power plant installed on its roof, in order to keep monitored and restrict CO2 emissions by more than 2,000 tons per year, equal to the annual CO2 emission of about 900 cars.
Iris Ceramica Group creates the world’s first ceramic factory powered by green hydrogen, confirming that sustainable innovation is always a priority in the Group’s choices. The new plant is in Castellarano and will be put into operation within the end of 2022. The facility is equipped with native technologies that allow the introduction of green hydrogen in production processes. This is also crucial for achieving the European objective of carbon neutrality by 2050.

Active Surfaces®, on the market from more than 10 years, are characterized by antibacterial and antiviral, anti-pollution, anti-odour and self-cleaning properties tested according to ISO standards. These are state-of-the-art surfaces, which demonstrate how technical ceramics is one of the noblest and most efficient materials of our time. The properties that distinguish Active Surfaces®, have been obtained thanks to the innovative process resulting from the long and scrupulous scientific research work of Iris Ceramica Group carried out in collaboration with the Chemistry Department of the University of Milan, which has also showed extraordinary results related to the ability of Active Surfaces® to eliminate 94% of SARS-CoV-2 after only 4 hours of exposure to UV light
