The ceramic production process inevitably requires a significant amount of energy because all the machinery is powered by electricity and the porcelain stoneware firing kilns require equally significant amounts of gas.
Precisely for this reason, all our investments on the manufacturing production side are aimed at reducing consumption as much as possible. The investments we make every year in ongoing plant innovation are intended to produce increasingly more efficient and aesthetically attractive products while paying due attention to reducing energy use and the resulting environmental impact.
The preparation of the Sustainability Report is an opportunity to monitor and aggregate environmental data relating to the Group, thereby facilitating a process of analysis and inquiry also useful to planning activities to continue to reduce environmental impact further. Below are the main energy indicators with a view to reducing the resulting environmental impact.



ENERGY USE

As the table shows, energy use is decreasing steadily thanks to the energy efficiency policy implemented in recent years, which is now bearing fruit.

ENERGY INTENSITY RATIO

Energy intensity, one of the parameters that make up an organization’s energy performance, defines energy use in the context of one or more specific parameters which, in the case of Iris Ceramica Group, has been calculated on electricity and gas. This ratio shows the energy required per unit of activity and is comparable with other production companies in the same sector. The lower the energy intensity of an organization, the more it means that suitable consumption efficiency processes have been implemented.
